Alsace Canal and Kembs Power Station
First section of canal forming part of plan to construct lateral waterways from point on Rhine, 3 mi from Swiss frontier to Strasburg; two main objects of scheme are to ensure regular navigation on Rhine at all seasons, and to utilize difference in water level between Balse and Strasburg, of 108 m, for production of energy; two locks have length of 185 m and 100 m and width of 25 m; Kembs power station is situated close to locks.
