Slurry-trench techniques in deep foundation construction
Construction of underground concrete diaphragm walls by use of bentonite slurry-trench techniques; its use provides rigid, watertight wall that permits subsequent dewatering and excavation without causing settlements and groundwater drawdown that might damage adjoining structures; underpinning is eliminated or minimized; it is being applied to increasing number of subway and deep building foundations in Europe and, more recently, in this country; number of highly specialized techniques and systems were developed; it is important that system chosen be suited to soil conditions, structural requirements, tolerances and required quality.
