Laminated timber suspension bridge
Timber suspension footbridge spanning River Margy at Ballycastle in Northern Ireland should sustain load on walkway of 100 lb/sq ft and be capable of resisting gale force winds of up to 100 mph; bridge consists of 5 1/4×20 in. main beams, 5 1/4×11 1/2 in. struts, towers of laminated timber units measuring 7 1/4×30 in. at deck level reducing to 7 1/4×15 in. at head, and 7 1/4×12 in. at base connections; cross-bracing between pairs of towers is of 5 1/4×12 in. section laminated timber; walkway deck construction comprises 1 1/4 in. thickness of asphalt on 1 1/2 in. square edged boarding fixed to 1 1/2 to 2 in.×5 in. joints at approximately 11 in. centers.
