A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Lighting installations of number of modern tunnels designed for high traffic densities are described; Maas Tunnel in Rotterdam was opened in 1941, Velsen Tunnel near Amsterdam in 1957; at time of their inauguration their lighting installations were up to date; they are compared with five recently designed installations which have been based on Recommendations for Tunnel Lighting, issued in 1963 by Netherlands Foundation on Illumination; new tunnels are Coen Tunnel, Nijmegen Railway Tunnel, Schiphol Tunnel, Benelux Tunnel, and IJ Tunnel in Amsterdam; latter will be opened in 1968; general and lighting data for all of these tunnels are tabulated; photographs.
