Measurements of deformations and stresses on Bratsk dam on Angara river
Concrete gravity structure of triangular cross-section has maximum height of 126 m in region of Eastern Siberia where annual mean air temperature is -2.7 C and extreme temperatures are -58 and +35 C and frost period continues more than 6 mo; program includes temperature, strain and stress measurements in concrete, settlements and deflections of dam, uplift etc; cracking occurs mostly on surface at early age of concrete; maximum settlement of dam is 63 mm and is expected to reach 73 mm; deflections of dam are seasonal due to temperature variations; irreversible downstream deflections are caused by hydrostatic pressure and temperature variations.
