Foundation problems on Mangla dam project
Mangla Dam Project consists of three rolled earth fill dams at Mangla, Sukian and Jari; dams are founded on bedrock of Siwalik Formation consisting mainly of alternating beds of weakly cemented sandstone, and overconsolidated stiff fissured clays with subsidiary beds of siltstone; special measures taken to deal with problem of sheared and weak clays have been described; both elastic and non-elastic displacements of Mangla foundation have been discussed in detail; elastic displacements have been described under two categories viz settlement and rebound; methods adopted for determining value of modulus of elasticity of Mangla foundations have been outlined.
