Meadowbank dam -- Foundations
Dam is 141-ft high massive buttress dam founded on sandstones; numerous near-horizontal seams containing material of clayey silt size classification existed in foundation and provided possible mode of failure of dam by sliding; shear strength of clayey silt was determined by laboratory and in-situ tests and acceptable factor of safety based on shear strength was obtained by providing foundation prestressing cables.
