Calculation of circular foundation slabs in case of gaping bottom joint; loss of contact between foundation and part of circumference of hollow cylindrical shaft (e.g. tall chimney or tower) with OD equals 2Ra can occur when eccentricity radius r of normal load acting on shaft is large enough; for such cases, method based on Fourier theorem is suggested for calculating bending surface, stresses, and moments; results are summarized in tables and in graphs showing stress distribution in foundation slab as function of ratio r/Ra.
