Equipment selection considerations were based on fact that no radically new or different machines would be obtained, adaptability for rock work, major items would be purchased only from established manufacturers and must be suitable for operation in Pakistan at ambient temperatures from 35 to 120 F, frequent high dusty winds, excavation of abrasive materials, annual monsoon rainy season, lack of local machine repair facilities, and availability of 50-cycle, electric power; list of ordered equipment is included.
