Waterproofing a basement
Waterproofing is ensured when site is selected with low groundwater elevation, proper grading, subgrade drainage and with waterproofing materials used in basement walls; these include ordinary reinforced concrete, plastic or stucco mortar; heavy, cement-base aggregate type of waterproof coating; four-coat metallic waterproof compound; two or three coats of cement-sand grout over key coat; brush-applied coatings of asphalt emulsions or of mineral-filled cut-backs; three or more alternate layers of hot asphalt or coal-tar pitch and bituminous-saturated cotton fabric or felt; membrane waterproofing.
