Intercity bridge requires unusual design
Complicated vertical and horizontal alignment dictated by bridge location forced designers to cope with many unusual structural problems; difficulties resulted in curved connections at both bridge ends; bridge location was further complicated by subsoil conditions existing at this site; effects of horizontal curvature on bridge details are shown, including sliding expansion joints, swivel pins, and allowances for side sway and longitudinal motion.
