Design of Arakawa railway bridge (prestressed concrete through-girder bridge)
Bridge midway between Akabane Station, Tokyo, and Kawaguchi Station, Saitama Prefecture, is through-girder bridge with trapezoidal open cross section; line consists of six tracks; central part over river center, is six-span Warren-type, continuous steel truss bridge with three 62.4 m spans and three 59.1 m spans; each part of bridge which spans flood plains of river consists of four concrete girders with 38.6 m spans; stresses were examined by A.A.Jakobsen's method and theory of plates, as well as by model tests; method yields values regarding torsional moment in main girder and lateral bending moment in slab; bridge was so designed that total shear may be borne by Moersch truss.
