Automatic design of bridges on French highways; application enabled 873 standardized bridge designs to be turned out in 4 yr; among 17 computer programs described, nine provide complete designs of five reinforced concrete bridges, three prestressed concrete bridges, and one composite construction bridge; four general programs serve for computing loads, stresses, and strains in structures of given size and form; automatic design made bridge building mass industrial operation, thus greatly reducing design and construction costs.
