New theory for shear strength of reinforced concrete beams
Using failure criterion for concrete under compressive-tensile stresses, theoretical equations are derived for strength of reinforced concrete rectangular and tee beams under combined bending and shear; these can be extended to case of bonded prestressed concrete beams also; results of over 200 experiments available in technical literature, including tests conducted by authors, were compared with theoretical results; predictions given by derived equations are on safe side in majority of cases, and can be used in design; equations derived indicate effect of moment/shear ratio on strength of beams.
