Asphalt membranes in expressway construction
Performance and design criteria of surface and buried types of asphalt membranes used in earth fills in urban expressway construction in Houston, Tex, to provide stabilization of plastic fills for bridge abutments; coverage of 1 gal/sq yd of grade OA-55 oil asphalt was found to be sufficient to maintain continuous membrane under most adverse conditions and to maintain essentially constant moisture content, density, and compressive strength in fills they envelop.
