Unconventional arch cofferdam design used in construction of River Zambezi dam in Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland incorporating vertical semicircular wall 960 ft long and 60 ft high, giving length-to-height ratio of 16 with constant thickness of only 6 ft; design affords precedent that could be used for permanent structures, where valley width has hitherto precluded construction of arch dam.
