Mississippi River cutoffs effective
Review of recent report on Mississippi River flood control showing that flood stages have been lowered as much as 15 ft by cutoffs and associated channel improvement work inaugurated 6 yr ago; full development of cutoffs has restored original slope of river; use of sand training dikes and corrective dredging to convert disorderly reaches of river into channels efficient in hydraulic and navigation service.
