Corrosion protection properties of portland cement concrete
Cooperative study by members of American Concrete Pressure Pipe Assn (ACPPA) is reported; 4 yr study was carried out to explain why portland cement concrete protects embedded steel from corrosion, to determine what conditions lessen this protection, and to discover ways to preserve protective effect; tests were made to determine effect on steel in concrete of both accumulating current and discharging current, and to examine criteria for cathodic protection of steel in concrete as means of preserving or supplementing normal protective capacity of concrete; apparatus and test procedures are described.
