Construction of first 6 km section of subway system in Rotterdam, Netherlands, includes 2 1/2 km to be cut-and-cover in business center of city, 1 km in immersed tube under River Maas, and 2 1/2 km on viaduct; as there was ample space available in wide streets, immersed tube construction applied under river was also used in parts of city section.
