Effect of structure and cold hardening on notch sensitivity of steels under cyclic stressing
Medium strength steels (HRC25-40) have maximum notch sensitivity; it decreases with increase of strength; mechanism is explained by different tendencies of steels to toughen during cyclic stressing; for steels which have tendency to aging after cold hardening, notch sensitivity sharply decreases; for medium strength and austenitic steels, volumetric cold hardening increases notch sensitivity; small-scale fatigue tests were used.
