Tunnel, 7.8 mi. in length, was driven through hard rock in 37 months; diagrams showing three successive crossings of Cascade Mountains; tunnel survey; plan of switchback lines; scheme of tunnel construction with pioneer tunnel 66 ft. to south of main tunnel; general progress of construction; timbering; arrangement of drill holes; drilling and blasting; power, lighting and ventilation; concreting of tunnel.
