Coefficients for velocity distribution in open-channel flow
In non-uniform distribution of velocity of water flowing in open channels, it is customary to use velocity head based on mean velocity and coefficient; Chezy and Manning equations will not yield practical solutions when considered as energy equations except for uniform velocity distribution; coefficient to be used in momentum equations is shown to be Cm, ratio of means of squares of local velocities to square of mean velocity. (See also - discussion, n 1 Jan 1944, n 7 Apr p 541-4)
