Track stabilisation by sand piling
Unusual method for stabilization of soft clay track formation being tried out by Eastern Region of British Railways; operation consists of driving 9-in. diam steel spud into formation at number of points between ties, withdrawing on reaching specified depth and filling hole with sand.
