Prototype behavior of building constructed of under-reamed piles
Light structure was constructed on under-reamed piles in area having deep layers of clayey soil near ground level; under-reamed piles of 12-ft depth were put in and building was supported on reinforced concrete beams cast in-situ over piles; 6 mo after completion building started to show signs of distress; minor cracks were first observed, which later developed into wide cracks going into basement from corners of window openings; observations made and studies carried out are presented.
