Aswan high dam
Account is given of design of high embankment dam across Nile under construction; dam will be 111 m high above lowest foundation, 3.6 km long at crest, 980 m maximum width at base, and 40 m wide at crest; it will comprise left-bank section 750 m long and having maximum height of 60 m above rock foundation, river section curved in plan and 520 m long, and right-bank section 2475 m long and 25 to 30 m high above rock foundation; it will have volume of 43 million cu m; diversion works and construction of power plant substructure are described.
