Texas highway department replaces bridge with steel culvert
To solve problem of widening 24-ft roadway at 325-ft bridge spanning Croton Creek about 2 mi east of Dickens in Texas corrugated-steel pipe culvert was installed; culvert is made of 1-gage plain galvanized corrugated steel and is 180 in. in diam and 292 ft long; use of pipe was based on improvement of existing grade line by using excavation from hill to fill canyon and raise grade over channel about 5 ft; this allowed existing bridge to remain in place and traffic to continue uninterrupted during construction.
