Investigation of carbonation progress in concrete structures
Extent of acidity increase due to gradual transformation of calcium hydroxide into calcium carbonate under influence of atmospheric CO2 was studied in reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures made of various concrete mixes; effect of concrete composition, type of cement, curing conditions, and humidity on carbonation progress was investigated; corrosion of reinforcement was observed when carbonation reached reinforcement and when oxygen and humidity had access.
