At TVA's guntersville lock -- Low cement content for mass concrete
Cement content of 1.3 bags/cu yd was used for interior mass concrete in additional lock at Guntersville Dam on Tennessee River in Alabama; low-slump concrete was consolidated with pneumatic vibrators operating at about 7000 rpm; cement came from four mills; tests showed substantial differences in strength of concrete made from different cements at both 7 and 28 days; concrete with 3-in. stone aggregate was almost as strong at 7 days as that made with 6-in. aggregate; at 28 days there was substantially higher strength with larger aggregate.
