Construction of 18,000-ft long ore haulage tunnel at Bingham Canyon, Utah; 1363 ft of 18 × 24 ft rock tunnel was excavated and lined in 26 days; output is considered to be world record; 50 to 85 holes drilled per round by 1 3/4 in. bits; Atlas 40% powder used as explosive; mucking by using 9 car train and known method of interchanging empty and loaded cars by jumbo hoist; concreting by use of pressweld gun; difficulties encountered in sections comprising kaolin clay.
