Following UNESCO appeal to salvage Egyptian monuments to be inundated by Aswan Dam waters, West Germany undertook to relocate Kalabsha Temple, partially flooded by high water level of old Aswan Dam; two-stage salvage operation, one at low flood level from barges, and one during dry summer period, are outlined; 16,000 blocks weighing 0.8 to 25 tons were moved to new site and reconstructed; only load bearing members were replaced by modern reinforced concrete beams and girders.
