Jacks lower bracing system as cofferdam is excavated
Two-level bracings for deep cofferdams of concrete piers in shallow water for 6622 ft bridge spanning ship-canal bypass of Mississippi near New Orleans were fabricated on barges with hydraulic jack supported suspension system and lowered on piles in 4- to 8-in. steps as cofferdam was excavated after barges were removed by ballasting; cranes with adequate lifting capacity were unavailable; bracing consisted of two 21WF112 frames with six 24WF130 bracings.
