Bridge demolition at Oroville dam
When Highway 40A was relocated around Oroville Dam, concrete arch bridge that had carried it across Feather River had to be demolished; main arch of 350-ft span was destroyed in one blast; objective of producing easily removed debris, avoiding flying pieces and ground or air shocks was achieved by V-shaped cut made in piers to fell them; for all blasting, 60% gelatin was used with reinforced Primacord No. 2 delays, HDP-3 primers, and instant electric caps.
