Behaviour of reinforced lightweight concrete beams in flexure and shear
Light weight concrete beams designed according to elastic theory were tested under third point loading; ultimate loads and deflections were calculated and compared with experimental values; another set of beams was tested for shear strength; beams of dense concrete of equivalent strength were also tested for comparison; test results of both light weight and dense concrete beams under flexure showed that their load factors were similar; however, flexural rigidity of light weight concrete beams was comparatively less, span-deflection ratios were greater than minimum acceptable value of 300, and their shear strength was found to be 75 to 90% of dense concrete beams.
