Corps of Engineers project is founded on rock under varying depth of sand and gravel; driving of 64 ft diam sheetpile cells for cofferdams was done by several sizes and types of steam hammers; curled and bent sheets were extracted with British extractor; dredges were used to fill cells and supply stabilizing fill; concrete comes from fully automatic batch plants at site; 12 31×100-ft steel tainter gates pass river flow; concrete dam will form 95 mi reservoir.
