Gallipolis Locks and Dam Replacement, Ohio River, Ohio and West Virginia
The recommended plan consists of modernizing the existing dam and replacing the existing navigation locks with new locks in a bypass canal. The modernization of the existing dam entails adding a bulkhead system to the existing piers, replacing the existing roller gates, and repairing or replacing the gate hoists and machinery as required. Replacement of the locks envisions construction of two 1200 by 110-foot chambers together with the dredging, excavation and deposition of material attendant with the development. Estalishment of public-use facilities at the site is contemplated. Environmental impacts are discussed.
