A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Geology of Portage Mountain Damsite, Peace River, B.C.
Portage Mountain site was chosen specifically because it is on secure, massive, relatively impermeable sandstone beds of Cretaceous Dunlevy formation; beds dip gently downstream, and faults are absent; intercalated shales are of noncompaction type and present only minor problems to construction; interbedded coal seams present, essentially, only grouting problem; dam will be constructed of gravels obtained from glacial moraines.
