Aggregate producer borrows brick extruding process
Using extrusion process employed in brick manufacturing, Los Angeles producer turns out 1000 cu yd of light weight aggregate/day; technique is used in forming cubical pellets comprising raw coarse aggregate which is fed to 2 kilns; in loose, dry condition, aggregate ranges in weight from 38 to 42 lb/cu ft; one of advantages claimed for light weight aggregate produced by extrusion process is its cubical shape; concrete made with this aggregate is easily placed and finished, and minimum void in concrete reportedly results from its shape.
