Green river bridge on western kentucky turnpike
Features of highway bridge under construction on Western Kentucky Turnpike where subsurface investigations indicated that rock would be encountered approximately 80 ft below natural ground line on west side of river; method for support of abutment and piers 1 through 6 was to place them on piles; 4 river piers were designed to be founded on rock; this necessitated use of cofferdams approximately 80 ft deep on west bank and approximately 40 ft deep on east bank of river; semi-circular cells for cofferdams were designed with strut in center.
