A First -- Texas Builds Bridge with High Strength Reinforcing
Continuous girder, 286 ft long, 2-lane, 4-span concrete highway bridge built near Hillsboro, Tex, is first in United States to incorporate high strength steel reinforcing bars; use of A342 steel bars saved 30% in quantity of steel required and reduced overall cost of structure by 10%; more than 100 strain gages and other measuring devices will record reaction of different parts of bridge to stresses caused by curing, temperature changes and dynamic loads.
