Construction of Medway bridge -- Main spans
Constructional procedure adopted for main spans of new prestressed concrete bridge which carries highway over River Medway, near Rochester, England; main superstructure of river span was constructed in 2 longitudinal halves; sections of girder over piers were constructed first and consist partly of precast concrete units supported on steel beams spanning between main piers and temporary steel towers located under each shore span; central span is 500 ft long.
