Surface cooling of mass concrete to prevent cracking
Method for placing of extremely long monoliths of mass concrete without occurrence of excessive tensile stress from cooling; by maintaining low temperature of surface concrete during hardening, compressive stress is produced when surface warms, and subsequent cooling does not cause high tensile stress; method is described, detailed computations of stresses given, and possible construction methods for accomplishing reduced temperature suggested.
