A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In vicinity of Paakkila Mine, pieces of earthenware cooking pots, estimated at about 4500 yr of age, have been discovered where asbestos fibers had been used as reinforcing component; industrial use of Paakkila asbestos was started in 1901 when mine was established, and first mill was built in 1907; potential annual capacity of present mill is nearly 12,000 tons; anthophyllite asbestos occurs in lenticular bodies of 10,000 to 100,000 tons.
