Jacking pipe downhill under water
Gravity drainage of Union Oil building now under construction in downtown Los Angeles; connecting existing storm sewer to building excavation with 24-in. concrete pipe; 443 ft long pipe, graded downhill for 13 1/2-in. drop, was moved with two Greenlee jacks mounted on rails and capable of exerting 75 tons force each; when jacking, pipe moved forward about 8 in. per min.
