Pavement widening program in Iowa
During 1955 and 1956 seasons, Iowa has widened more than 1000 mi of 18 ft pavement; typical project consists of curb and flume removal, excavating and compacting trench, placing, finishing and curing new widening, and reshaping shoulders; in removing curb, 1 1/2 in. saw cut is first made at gutter line; shouldering consists mostly of blading trench material over old shoulder and compacting trench at edge.
