Heavy duty asphaltic pavements are examined from standpoint of first cost, maintenance cost, life expectancy, load carrying capacity, speed of construction, smoothness, skid resistance, and visibility; pavements found to measure up well from all of these standpoints; asphalt pavements not only belong in heavy duty field but still provide backbone of light duty and medium duty pavement system.
