New distribution of extreme winds in united states
Using methods previously reported (see Engineering Index 1960 p 832) annual extreme wind speed data series were extended to longer records at airports and reduced to standard 30 ft elevation; these were fitted by Fisher-Tippett Type 2 (Frechet) distribution by logarithmic transformation of Type 1 distribution; maps are given for 2, 10, 25, 50, and 100 yr mean recurrence intervals; map for 50 yr interval for Alaska is included as well as tabular data for Hawaii and Puerto Rico; confidence limits on mean recurrence intervals are extended to new record length and fixed interval probabilities are discussed; nomogram for power law elevation-speed conversion for powers of 1/7, 1/5, and 1/3 is included.
