Experimental transit expressway in Pittsburgh -- Structural design of elevated roadway
Experimental study; expressway system was designed to provide frequent service in medium density urban areas, and was constructed for purpose of determining engineering and operating feasibility and costs; test track is 9360 ft long with many horizontal and vertical curves, grades and topographic features deliberately built in to test system; 95% of total length is on elevated structure; circular cast-in-place concrete foundation columns were used to support welded steel shop fabricated columns, cross-arms and span units; track surface is cast-in-place concrete designed to act compositely with steel stringers.
