Stable channels with gravel-paved beds
Hydraulics of naturally gravel-paved channels are examined on basis of field and laboratory data covering discharge range from 1 to 100,000 cfs and bed-material-size range from 0.5 to 18 in.; natural gravel pavements are closely associated with conditions of low bed-load transport; equation relating tractive force to bed material size, exponential flow formula, and regime-type width-discharge relationship are combined to form set of channel design rules; possible applications and methods for sampling gravel pavements are mentioned.
