Hurricane flood protection in united states
Studies provide information pertaining to behavior and frequency of hurricanes, forecasting methods, improved warning services, means of preventing loss of lives and damages to property, and general engineering aspects and economics of structural measures; structural measures were found economically justified at 41 of 77 specific localities studied; economic and engineering details of these measures are tabulated; various types of protective structures are mentioned and standard project hurricane which is or approximates design hurricane is defined; design levels of four proposed projects in Louisiana were compared with flood levels during hurricane "Betsy".
