Operation David -- Demolition of Goliath crane
Demolition of 375-ton crane used during construction of Dungeness A Power Station is described; crane and supporting members weighed 1100 tons and was 182 ft high; preliminary trials were made and form of shearing attack on members using plastic explosive was decided on; first stage was to collapse it onto ground using explosive cutting charges; details are given of charges, manner in which they were laid, and initiation, firing procedure and collapse; fall is analyzed mathematically; various factors relating to ground shock are examined and results are recorded of shock measurements on buildings and ground surface.
